ABOUT US

The Southwest Ohio VFW Memorial Team was founded on April 24, 1966, at VFW Post 6069 in Lebanon, Ohio. Ralph Palmer was elected the first Commander with Sam Warmoth, Adjutant. Members from Posts 7479 in Loveland, 8202 in Morrow, and 9622 in Mason also joined the team.

Currently based at the Gregory J. Missman VFW Post 9630 in Batavia, Ohio under the leadership of Commander Randy Fannin, the team includes 22 all veteran, active volunteers from various VFW and American Legion Posts. The team conducts more than 150 Military Honor services annually, featuring burial services, flower tributes, a rifle salute, TAPS, and flag folding presentations to family members. Memorial medallions and spent shell casings are also respectfully provided to the families during the ceremony.

Families are encouraged to request these services through their Funeral Directors when making burial arrangements. Proof of military service, such as DD-214, is required. The team does not charge deceased veterans’ families for services, and no team member receives compensation for their services. While the services are free, the team accepts donations to help cover expenses.
